How to start your MLM blog

Do you wanna be at the front of a wave for a change?

MLM blogging is the wave of the future for serious NWM leaders online.

There’s just no way around it. The more junk that gets put on the web, the more spam that clogs up people’s email, the more and more important it will become to find a way to be ‘invited’ into people’s web space.

Opt-in lists are great too and can go very slickly hand in hand with blogging, but for now let’s just get your blog up and running.

Okay, so what’s a blog… A blog (short for weblog) is quite simply a way of keeping a running bit of information in front of your audience. They can take the place of or be the info that comes before an autoresponder series. Blogs take many forms. And how you choose to approach yours will be unique to you. Which is another benefit.... a unique voice in a sea of chaos.

Let people get to know you, overdeliver on the things that they are searching for and they'll want to buy from you and maybe even work with you.

There are lots of places you can ‘keep’ your blog for free. I like Blogger.com (run by Google) just fine and it'’s what I’'m familiar with so it'’s what I’'ll tell you about here.

  • Start here
  • Click on ‘Create your blog now’
  • Create your Account (choose login name and password, etc...)
  • You’ll find yourself on the ‘Dashboard’
  • Click on ‘Create a Blog’

Now comes a part you might want to give a little thought to.

Your blog title and the URL address you would like to have.
(hint: You can change these later so don'’t get hung up here if you can’t decide, just get the thing put together would 'ya?)

If you want to be found by search engines, your blog title should be related to its theme. You might also want to put dashes between the words to make it easier for your readers and the search engine spiders to read. Spiders are the little scout programs that are sent out onto the web to ‘see’ what your site is about.

Click ‘Continue’.

Now you get to choose a template ~ this will be what each of your blog pages will ‘look’ like. This can also be changed later, but you will want to settle on one before you start customizing it to include the stuff that you want on it like visitor counters and adsense and the like. But more on that later.

Each template has a little ‘'view'’ magnifying icon in the lower right hand corner. Click on any of these you want to take a better look at.

Select your favorite template.

Click continue.

Oooohhhh Ahhhhhh.... it’'s making your blog.... How exciting!

Now it should say :
Your blog has been created!
Click on ‘'Start Posting'’

Now you should see what looks like a blank email page and four tabs across the top.

Click on the ‘'Settings'’ tab~
You'’ll see a second menu across the top for different sorts of options. These are the ones I chose:

Basic: This is where you can change your blog'’s name if you want it to look different on the actual blog pages. You should also enter a description of what your plans are; what the theme of your blog is (hint: you can also use simple html code in these areas). The other 4 settings I chose ‘'yes’'.

Click ‘'Save Settings’'

Publishing: This is where you can change the we address (URL) of your blog. Don’t change it once you start posting ... you never know who might want to find it again ;-)
The weblogs option, I checked ‘'yes'’.

Click ‘'Save Settings'’

Formatting & Comments: Are pretty straight forward; choose how you want your posts to be presented and whether you want to allow comments. You can tweak these anytime.

Click ‘'Save Settings'’

Archiving: I chose ‘'monthly'’ and ‘'yes'’ (this ‘'yes’' will help with search engine stuff later too).

Click ‘'Save Settings'’

Site Feed: I chose ‘'yes'’ and ‘'short'’ ~ these determine how people will be able to view your blog as a news feed directly on their desktops (aka. Syndication). Copy and paste your ‘site feed url’ into an email to yourself or somewhere; you’ll need that later.

Click ‘'Save Settings'’

Email: Enter email you want a copy of each post sent (you’'ll also get any comments by other people). If you’'d like to be able to post directly from your email program, pick a ‘secret’ email address that you can use to do that with.

Click ‘'Save Settings'’

Members: If this is a jointly run blog, you would list the other folks here. This would give them access to creating posts and if ‘admin’ is checked, they would also be able to change the ‘settings’.

Now we'’ll go on to the ‘'Template’' tab

You’'ll see that you can ‘'edit current'’ or ‘'pick new'’. Finalize your selection, including the color of the bar across the top that let’s people navigate to other blogs. Don'’t touch the html area in the ‘edit’ view until you’'re ready to add extra stuff like visitor counters.

Click ‘'Save Settings'’!!

Well, all that’s left to do now is make your first post :)

Go to the ‘'Posting'’ tab

And enter your first post in the 'create' area (just like an email) and then ‘publish it’!

Congratulations!!
You’re now the proud new owner of your own blog!!

To Your Success,
Andrea
